Mona Mill
Having bemoaned this mill's demolition, I suddenly found a couple of shots. You can see that part of the mill to the left of the tower had already been demolished. It also seems that there's no chimney. Built 1905, architect F W Dixon, 90,456 spindles, George Saxon 1400 hp engine. Production ceased 1959 then in multi-occupancy. Site is now a housing estate.

The engine house is back left. Part of the mill had been reduced in height to the right of the tower. I don't know if the metal work on top of the tower had originally been clad.

I am looking over two sets of fences to get this end on view of the engine house and truncated chimney.

I'm stood on a fence to look over a taller fence. Good result though. I'm on the edge of the site of Mona Mill, now a housing estate (aaagh!). Chadderton Mill was designed by P S Stott for the Chadderton Mill Co and built in 1885 (name and date on top end of engine house). In 1915 there were 102,456 spindles turned by a 1100 hp Hick, Hargreaves engine. This is one of the few mills to retain a lodge but it is lost in foreground clutter.

Nice view on the truncated chimney and bricked up engine house with the mill's name and date on the large stone capping. This street is on the site of Mona Mill. There's a guy sat in the BMW who was decidedly suspicious of my activities.
