Hartford Mill, Oldham
The photographer's viewpoint is a best guess. I think the buildings in the left foreground are no more. The big former cotton spinning mill is also no more as it was demolished in 2020.

Hartford Mill and urban decay
A former large cotton spinning mill that had reached a very dangerous stage of dereliction before demolition commenced in February 2020. The houses in the foreground were all boarded up and I believe these have now all been cleared away. There is new development in the area and the mill is to be replaced with houses. The photographer's position is approximate due to the changes in the 12 years since this was taken.

Hartford Mill, Oldham
Listed Grade II (really). Demolition appears to be imminent. The urban explorers have been all over it and the vandals have trashed it. Built 1907 by the Hartford Mill (Oldham) Co Ltd. Extended 1920 and 1924. Closed 1959 and used by Littlewoods as a mail order warehouse until 1992. Architect was F W Dixon, there were 120,000 spindles and power was provided by a very impressive 1500 hp Urmson & Thompson engine. Update - the mill is now demolished and the chimney was explosively demolished on 01/10/2023.

Hartford Mill, Oldham - Chimney
Seen from the end of Milne Street by a closed off entrance to the overgrown area by the mill. The mill is a former cotton spinning mill that was already derelict in 2008 and finally demolished in 2020 although it had been Grade II Listed. I am sorry to see Lancashire's textile heritage being steadily demolished.

This derelict cotton spinning mill was Listed Grade II but was finally demolished in 2020 after deteriorating into a dangerous state. On the extreme left is the edge of Chadderton Mill of 1881, another former cotton spinning mill that is still standing at the time of posting.

Hartford Mill, Oldham
Despite its ruinous state this is still a most imposing building. Oldham's mills make a huge impression in the landscape and they are continuing to disappear.
