A ride on the 409
The 409 route runs between Rochdale and Ashton-under-Lyne via Oldham at ten-minute intervals. Here we are heading north between Bardsley and Hathershaw to the south of Oldham. The service is operated by First Manchester Limited. The bus is a single decker Volvo/Wright, number 66906.

Built 1904 by the Bell Mill Co Ltd, extended in 1919 and again in 1943. Ceased production May 1957 and taken over two years later by GUS Ltd as a mail-order warehouse. Has lost a distinctive cupola from the tower.Architect - Potts, Son & Hennings. Spindleage (1915) 130,176. Engine George Saxon - 1500 hp (obviously a horizontal).
