Path between railway and canal
After leaving Portland Basin the Ashton canal uses a tunnel under the Asda superstore. There is no towpath on that section so walkers and cyclists following the route are diverted along a pathway from the end of the superstore carpark and alongside the viaduct that carries Trans Pennine express trains from Stalybridge to Manchester Piccadilly.
