Ashton-under-Lyne: Bus Station
Municipal transport in Ashton started with electric trams, but trolleybusescame early here and the town was a stronghold of this mode for many years. In the 1960s the trolleys were replaced by diesel buses, but these were soon absorbed into the large SELNEC (South East Lancashire and North East Cheshire) passenger transport set-up, which later became Greater Manchester PTE. Now all the buses are privatised, with Stagecoach and First Group major players in this area. The bus shown on Route 346 is destined for Gee Cross, several miles away the other side of Hyde in Cheshire.
