Ashton Canal, Cavendish Mill
Looking east along the Ashton Canal towards Cavendish Street. Ahead, on the left, is Cavendish Mill which is a Grade II* listed former cotton spinning mill (http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-212750-cavendish-mill- British Listed Buildings). It was built between 1884 and 1885 for the Cavendish Spinning Company. It ceased spinning cotton in 1934 and was then used for a variety of purposes before it was converted into housing in 1994.

Cavendish Mill, Ashton-under-Lyne
Viewed from the train; the former spinning mill dating from 1885 has now been converted to apartments. The architects were Potts, Pickup and Dixon of Oldham and its grade 2* listing (list entry 1067948) is given for being the earliest building in Ashton, and one of the first in the world, to use concrete floors on steel girders rather than brick arches.
