Court Street Uppermill
Court Street, in the centre of Uppermill, leads up to the Civic Hall on Lee Street which is the building in the centre of the picture. The Civic Hall is a popular venue for various functions like weddings, 1940s dances and big name brass band evenings. Built in 1860 by flannel manufactures J.Bradbury & Co this four storey stone built mill has had many uses over the years. In the mid 1980s it was a craft centre which was divided into small units. Today the mill on the banks of the river Tame has been converted into stylish living apartments. For future reference a 2 bedroom fourth floor flat was on the market for £199,950 in March 2009. Image

High Street, Uppermill
Buildings on the east side of High Street. Now a 'decorating centre', the building at centre right formerly housed a shop of the Uppermill Co-operative Society.At extreme right the small building was once the 'Bridge Inn'. On the left is the 'Hare and Hounds', which displays the defiant banner 'Saddleworth in the West Riding of Yorkshire' (officially Saddleworth ceased to be part of Yorkshire when it was subsumed into Oldham in 1974).
