Duke Mill, Shaw
One of the few former cotton spinning mills left in Shaw. The mill was built in 1883 and in 1915 had 70,380 spindles turned by a 900 horsepower steam engine by Woolstenhulmes & Rye of Oldham that was located in the lower section on the right. The mill has been used by a furniture company but is now (February 2023) on sale. It looks in fair order and I hope that it will not be replaced by yet more houses.

Big Lamp Roundabout
There used to a "Big Lamp" at this junction in Shaw. Although long gone it is still referred to as the "Big Lamp". Oldham Road here meets the A633 from Royton to Milnrow. Church Road on the other side leads towards Rochdale Road.

Aldi, Shaw
On Greenfield Lane at the end of Eastway. This low cost supermarket now has Asda for competition about 200 yards away, but it appears to be thriving.

Crompton Health Centre
Situated on High Street, Shaw opposite the war memorial. It was built circa 1974. In recent years some doctors moved to a new health centre in nearby Royton and their Shaw patients were forced to travel further for their medical needs.

Situated on High Street opposite the health centre. The council is to be congratulated for making this gateway to the town centre very attractive. Looking towards the Crompton Way by-pass.
