Mons Mill
A very large Cotton mill that was originally powered by a monstrous cross compound mill engine with a flywheel grooved for about 73 ropes and built by Carels in Belgium. This was where the bricked-up opening is. The engine house, boiler house and chimney have all been demolished. The very plain end wall indicates that this was designed as a double mill, never finished. Note the cobbled yard and mill gates. The mill has since been demolished, and in August 2005 there was a Planning Notice on the site re a proposed residential care home.

Former gatehouse of Mons Mill, Todmorden
Now used by polished poses photography. It was then in use as a bar, probably a social club. The mill was still standing but has now been demolished. Here is a view of the mill - Image The mill stood to the left of the gatehouse.

Mons Mill, Stansfield, Todmorden
Originally called Hare Mill. The pub next door is the Hare & Hounds (I wonder if there was a link). Now demolished and the site is being redeveloped. Only the gatehouse survives. A seriously poor, misty morning.
