Nook Mill, Syke
Constructed in the 19th century as a woollen mill and taking its name from the nearby Nook Farm, Nook Mill was producing belting by 1910 and continued to do so until closure in the 1980s. Seen here from the upper storey of 48 Scarr Drive. Today the site is occupied by a small cul-de-sac called Mill Nook.

Fishing, etc., in Syke Pond, Rochdale, Lancashire
This picture gives some idea of the amusements for children that are the raison d'etre of Syke Pond. The older girl seems to have found something interesting, while the boy appears to be trying to hit the dog's head with a golf club.
