Castleton Hotel
This used to be the South East Lancs Area Office of NatWest Bank about 30 years ago until internal reorganisation meant that they didn't need it any more. There is a bowling green on the other side of the wall on the right.

Bridge 65a
Rochdale Canal, just below Blue Pits New Lock. This was constructed to allow the canal to pass under the M62 which was built over the canal which was at the time abandoned and without prospect of restoration. The new line of the canal uses a culvert which was part of the original motorway embankment.

Rochdale Canal: the original line
This is the old line of the canal close to where the new cut and new lock 53 have been constructed to pass beneath the M62 motorway. The vegetated island serves as a barrier to through canal traffic.

Rochdale Canal modern deviation at Trub
The construction of the M62 motorway blocked the Rochdale Canal. A new deviation leading to a new underbridge of the motorway was made. The locks of this deviation are on the far right of the view. Straight ahead is the original route still with water
