Redisham St Peter?s church
From outward appearances, this church could almost be a barn. There is no tower, but a wooden bell-cote sits atop the west nave roof. From the evidence of the style of construction, it is very early pre-Conquest. The Norman south doorway is exceptional for such a small edifice; it even has an early scratch dial from before the porch was added. However, it doesn’t stop there, another fine doorway is on the north side. Now bricked up and partly hidden by a shed is another, perhaps not quite so grand but outstanding nevertheless, especially when one considers the size of the church. The font is octagonal and has Tudor rose decoration and angel heads on the corbelling of the bowl. The pulpit has a bracketed book-board which is dated 1619. The Royal Arms bear the skinniest lion and unicorn I have ever seen and are inscribed G. R.
