The site of Gorleston Railway Station
Few people traversing this roundabout realise that this was once the site of Gorleston Railway Station. The track (facing north-north-west) entered the station where the lamppost in front of the lorry now stands. The west platform was across the road the east platform was in the trees. The line was a good deal higher than the road now is, being at the same level of Victoria Road, the trees being on an embankment, about the height of the footbridge from where the photo was taken.

The A47 closely following the line of the track
Immediately north of the former Gorleston Station.
The road is however somewhat lower than the original trackbed which would have been at about half the height of the concrete retaining wall at this point.

Station Hotel, Gorleston-on-Sea
The Yarmouth to Lowestoft rail line used to run through Gorleston but was axed in the Beeching cuts. The old station is long gone but the Station Hotel is now a private residence. To the right of the photo you can still see the signs for the stables.
