Entrance to the Palm Court Hotel
On the left of the entrance is a plaque, in memory of 26 members of the ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service) who were killed when Sefton House, which stood on this site, was bombed on the 11th of May 1943. The memorial may be seen here https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6298250

Memorial to 26 ATS girls who died at Sefton House
On the left of the entrance to the Palm Court Hotel is this plaque, in memory of 26 members of the ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service) who were killed when Sefton House, which stood on this site, was bombed on the 11th of May 1943. For a wider view https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6298242 Described at the time as “a grievous loss of life.” It has also been termed the largest single military loss of servicewomen. The youngest victim was a local girl, 19-year-old Lilian Grimmer, of Cobholm.
