Catfield village sign
The sign features a swallowtail butterfly at the very top with the church and two thatched cottages. In the field a farmer is ploughing with his tractor followed by an entourage of gulls. Just ahead of him is a yacht parked up on the River Ant which meanders back and forth south-west of the parish. Oh yes and there’s a cat in a field eyeing up the primroses. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6677746

Village sign, Catfield
"This sign was unveiled by John Francis from Anglia Television on 14 September 1998". As well as Image, a tractor and a trading wherry (see Image), the sign depicts a cat and, at the top, the local rare species, a swallowtail butterfly. The wherry is significant because the village has two staithes, one on the Ant in Image and one on the Thurne Image - just over 2 miles as the crow flies, not much more by road, but a tortuous 14 miles or more by river. Apparently the village used to be known as "Clever Catfield" for this reason.
