St Peter's Church, Clippesby - stained glass window by M.E.A. Rope
This stained glass window, created around 1919, was the first commission of Margaret Edith Rope. Here the artist's eye for detail and her skills at portraying children are first visible, as is her interpretation of the Arts and Crafts style. To distinguish herself from her namesake cousin Marga (Margaret Agnes Rope) - also a stained glass artist - she used the professional name of M.E. Aldrich Rope (incorporating her mother's maiden name) or M.E.A. Rope. Because of her nickname 'Tor' (short for tortoise), she occasionally used a tortoise as a signature for some of her windows.

Clippesby St. Peter's church
This lovely little Norman church is set well off the road and is hidden from it. The relatively modern octagonal belfry stage is immediately apparent. The north door is 13th c. and has an engaged column either side and three orders of moulding. It was restored in the 19th c. and is now sealed. Either side of the porch doorway is a small mass dial and above your head inside the reconstructed arch is more carved Norman stone.

The Roll of Honour in Clippesby church
The Roll records the loss of three men from the 24 who left the village during the First World War. Two men were lost in WW2, one of which was in the Home Guard.
