Upper Sheringham village sign
The lifeboat is the subject of the sign, and rightly so too. Like Sea Palling they are very proud of the number of lives they have saved. The mermaids on the spandrels represent the mermaid carved on one of the bench-ends in the church. Apparently during one stormy night a mermaid sought refuge in the church and someone decided she should be remembered. Another fishy tail I think.

Upper Sheringham village sign and the spring reservoir
The small reservoir in front of the church was dedicated in 1814 to celebrate victory over Napoleon's army. The reservoir is fed by a spring a little further up the hill and for many years was the village's source of fresh water.
