Sheringham Youth Hostel, current entrance
The turn in to the car park is from Cremer's Drift. Parking extends round to the east side Image There was a time, within living memory, when hostels didn't have car parks. Arriving by car was frowned on. The few had to park where they could. Around 1960, I'm told, a hostel bed cost one shilling and sixpence (7·5 pence); you could order milk and bread for the morning, and you were expected to undertake some chores. My night at Sheringham cost about £22 with a member's discount, plus the price of an evening meal.

St Joseph's church - monument
St Joseph's church (completed in 1936) was built in two stages by the renowned architect Giles Gilbert Scott, who also built the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool, and it is Sheringham's only listed building.
