Demise of the Red Lion, Upper Sheringham
After much controversy and discussion it seems the Lion, which is owned by the Trustees of John Ashton's Children's Settlement Trust, is to be converted to residential use.
The pub closed in 2006. An application was made in 2007 to convert it into three cottages but planning permission was refused.
Despite protests that it should remain as a pub, in 2013 the owner made a new bid to convince North Norfolk District Council to allow it to be converted, and included a builders' estimate in its application, saying it would cost £156,000 to get the building up to scratch to be used as a pub again.
