Stody St Mary's church
The round tower may be Saxon in origin although the section with the bell openings and parapet is later. Here is a cruciform church. The roofs match over the whole length and width of the nave, chancel and transepts with cross-vaulting, which is quite uncommon in a small church. A 13th c. octagonal font which sits on a double octagonal plinth is decorated with shallow arches on the bowl and is supported by eight columns and a central shaft. The interior is austere and has little of interest to offer the visitor other than the stained glass, one of the best assemblages of 15th century stained glass in north Norfolk. High in the north windows, and also in the east side of the south transept are depicted various apostles, saints, prophets and kings. Whether you find the church open is down to luck and good timing.
