West Barsham, The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
This church has Saxon origins as can be seen from the circular deep double-splayed openings in the north wall. > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1981235 Both north and south doorways are Norman however the latter seeming to have two distinct styles. > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1981240 The stones in the south chancel wall mark where the Saxon tower once stood. > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1981231 It appears to have started life as a very small church built onto a defensive tower, with the nave added to the west soon after giving it a central tower.
