The Headstone of Elio Finelli in Fakenham cemetery
Caporale Maggiore (Corporal) Elio Finelli was an Italian soldier abroad when he died in Fakenham on the 9th April 1944 aged 38. Nothing else known at this time. This is also a rarely seen example of a Commonwealth War Graves Commission headstone specifically for Italian servicemen.

Grave of Lieut Comte Gabriel De Gramont at Fakenham
Lieut Comte (Lieutenant, Count) Gabriel Antoine Armand De Gramont was a pilot in the Free French Air Force in WW2. He died aged 34 on 10th April 1943 when his plane crashed near RAF West Raynham. A special 70th anniversary service was held in 2013 when the mayor, Janet Holdom laid a wreath but the grave has seen little attention since. Additional information. Gabriel de Gramont sent his wife and son to safety in America, after escaping from Nazi occupied France, then made his way to England to join the R.A.F. and flew as a pilot in the Free French Air Force. He was stationed at Great Massingham and ran bombing missions over Germany. He died while flying a Boston IIIa, BZ324 when it crashed in 1943.
