Fakenham town sign
The sign is surmounted by a coat of arms of Fakenham Lancaster, the full name of the town. John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster, was founder of the House of Lancaster, which ruled England until The War of the Roses. He was given the Manor of Fakenham in 1377, hence Fakenham's full name Fakenham Lancaster. The sign itself is double sided. The side facing the street and most visible refers to the printing industry whereas the back signifies the influence of the Quakers. In the spandrels is a waggon which is a reference to the Rev. Henry Buckenham, a missionary who was born in Fakenham in 1844 and sailed away to Africa. He died age 52 in 1896 at Kazangula, Zambia. The horse and plough pays homage to Sir George Edwards, an agricultural trade unionist. On the front the penny-farthing honours Mr J C Garrood who was an engineer and inventor, of bicycles presumably, while the ship recalls the voyages of Sir Robert Seppings, who was born in 1767, and designed ships for the Royal Navy. He is most famous for saying "partial strength produces general weakness“. In 1813 he was appointed joint surveyor of the Royal Navy. he retired in 1832, he died at Torquay in 1840. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6793658

Fakenham Conservative Club, 14 Whitehorse Street, Fakenham, Norfolk
Rather surprisingly this used to be a Congregational Chapel and dates from the 18th century, with later alterations. It is a Grade II listed building.

Temporary closure of part of Norwich Street, Fakenham, Norfolk
On Thursdays a market is held in the town centre and this part of Norwich Street was closed for the event. It was a wet morning and perhaps this was the reason there were very few stalls to be seen.
