Telephone Box
The old bench outside the telephone box at Moorgate Road, Hindringham suggests that in pre-mobile days there was a chance of having to wait for someone to finish a call before it was your turn! But the red telephone boxes, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, are worth preserving even if they have ceased to be an essential requirement for every English village.

Curious pole emerging from hedge
The curious pole is a sewage vent pipe. For a current discussion of these see http://www.geograph.org.uk/discuss/index.php?&action=vthread&forum=2&topic=2600 Plumbing drainage and venting systems maintain neutral air pressure in the drains, allowing the flow of water and sewage down drains and through waste pipes by gravity. Vents provide for relief of sewer gases, admission of oxygen for aerobic sewage digestion, and for the maintenance of the trap water seals that prevent sewer gases from entering the building. Every plumbing fixture has an attached vent. The venting of a sewage system consists of pipes that lead from indoor fixtures to the outdoors, usually via the roof.
