Once there was a level crossing here
The track of the old railway gets a little indistinct around here but where Gunn Lane emerges at this point there would once have been level crossing gates, just before Foulsham station. Those were the days, my friend, when rural Norfolk had a comprehensive network of lines!

Site of Foulsham station, 1993
View eastward, towards Aylsham and Wroxham: ex-GER Wroxham - Aylsham - County School line, which closed 15/9/52 although goods continued County School - Foulsham until 31/10/64. During World War Two there was much activity here, but 50 years later there is no sign of the railway - just two ponies playing.
