Swanton Morley village sign
The sign is surmounted by a representation of the old water mill which once stood by the River Wensum, north of the village. The mill was formerly a fulling mill and converted to a paper mill in the 18th Century. The sign itself depicts a happy Sir William de Morley receiving rent from his poor tenants cap in hand. Even the dog appears to be bowing until you notice the mouse! https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6796683
