Sea Palling or Palling St. Margaret's church
This is a shabby church, but not the worst I have visited. Yet I loved it. It is full of character, it is warm and welcoming. If it were spruced up, I am sure it would lose its charm. It was built in the 14th century and the original font is still here with its shallow carving of window-like arcading on the octagonal bowl. Before the Commonwealth it was in ruins but was restored in 1674. Since then the Victorians have done their bit and virtually rebuilt it. White, in 1864, described it as thatched, but it is now slated with the pitch of the roof retained. There are some nice poppy-head bench ends, but on the wall hanging in pride of place are the lists of lives saved by the Palling Lifeboat. It is very impressive and deserves its place of honour.
