The Canton Chinese Restaurant, at 129 Thorpe Road, can be seen at left. It originally used to be the Hero of Redan public house, with the first documented licensee having been Zachariah Bright in 1857. The pub was closed for some time and re-opened in May 1999 as the Canton Chinese Restaurant.
