Stratton Strawless village sign
Trees figure strongly on this sign. Robert Marsham (1707–97), the phrenologist, is believed to have planted two million trees on the Hall estate when he was living there. Many were harvested during the wars but some remain including the great cedar, pictured, planted in 1747. The bridge featured on the sign is not a river bridge but instead spans Mount Pond on Parish Road. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6705283
