St Margaret's church - north doorway
The entrance into St Margaret's church leads through a 15th century doorway that is surrounded by a Victorian scroll on the inside (seen here). The interior > Image - Image was extensively restored on two occasions: by Mrs Fellowes in 1846 and in 1878 by Major Bourchier; another restoration was carried out in 1936. The stained glass windows date from this time; several of the windows, including the east window > Image, were made by Ward & Hughes of London. The east window commemorates Colonel Claud Bourchier who was awarded the Victoria Cross in the Crimean War. An old ledger slab depicting a skull and crossbones is set into the west wall > Image The church is kept locked but a key is readily available.
