This station was on the Merthyr to Abergavenny line; the track bed is now part of NCR 46. The platforms end at the bridge.

Course of former Abergavenny - Merthyr railway westward from Gilwern
The mountainous ex-LNWR line was closed completely on 6/1/58; the gradient here was 1-in-40 and trains were banked by large 0-8-4T locomotives. Gilwern Halt was behind the camera. (Cf. Image]).
