Lion Street, Blaenavon
Lion Court flats on the right, public library on the left. A nearby information board states that before Lion Street was built the adjacent land was once the site of an open air groceries and provisions market. The market was in addition to the Spring and Autumn livestock fairs when everything from horses, sheep and pigs, to butter and shoes could be bought or traded. By the early 20th century, as the town developed, this area was second only to nearby Broad Street for business activity with a cinema and the largest ironmongers store in town.
