Eastern end of Forge Pond, Blaenavon
The pond, about 110 metres long and 50 metres wide, is variously known as Forge Pond, Pen-ffordd-goch Pond or The Keeper's Pond. The latter name is a reference to a nearby cottage formerly the dwelling of a grouse moors gamekeeper. The pond was built in the early 19th century to provide water for Garnddyrys Forge, which started production c1817. The forge was dismantled in the 1860s.
