Memorial seats, Pontypool Park
Located near the park pond. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3195361 A notice on the rightmost seat records that artREGEN (see below) had the seats placed here in memory of Pontypool and District Hospital. It is the work of sculptor Andrew Bolton whose design is based on the stories and memories of past staff and patients of the hospital, and the imaginations of local school children who also helped make the sculpture, as did adults from Ty Nant Ddu Resource Centre. It was funded by donations, fund-raising events and grants from the Arts Council of Wales, Torfaen County Borough Council and Pontypool Community Council. Andrew Bolton was assisted by Jim Pezzack. artREGEN is a voluntary organisation which was set up by Soroptimist International of Cwmbran and District and the Women's Institutes of Cwmavon and Pontnewynydd in 1998 to help in the regeneration of Pontypool through the Arts.
