Griffithstown Railway Museum
Viewed from the south. The museum is located in a restored former Great Western Railway goods shed. It now houses an extensive collection of railway memorabilia and model railways. A highlight is a complete stationmaster's office. Opening times: 10am - 5pm seven days a week. Griffithstown was named after Henry Griffiths, the first GWR stationmaster at nearby Pontypool Road.

Steam hammer outside former railway goods shed
The goods shed became the home of the Griffithstown railway museum, but is now a nursery. The steam hammer came from Panteg steelworks when it was demolished in 2000.

The Open Hearth, Sebastopol
The sign for the Open Hearth makes reference to the traditional industry of the Pontypool area rather than any cosy internal feature of the pub. The pub is located by the towpath of the Monmouthshire Canal in the suburb of Sebastopol, named in honour of the Crimean War.

Oh no it's not!
This plaque is not attached to a steam powered anything. It is a Massey pneumatic hammer with an integral compressor. A once common device and not to be confused with a steam hammer. The hammer is seen here - Image but the angle hides its true nature. As soon as we pulled up in the car park we could see it could in no way be called a steam hammer.
