Waterfowl sign alongside Llantarnam Park Way, Cwmbran
A black depiction of a duck on the sign is on the approach to Llantarnam Ponds, the habitat of ducks, swans and other waterfowl. From time to time, newspapers report that swans have been seen on the adjacent roads. For example, in July 2013, the South Wales Argus reported that an inquistive male swan took to crossing the road to look at its own reflection in a bus shelter. He was spotted by office workers, crossing Llantarnam Park Way to inspect the bus stop while the pen and nine cygnets waited on a pond bank. After this activity had been witnessed daily, staff contacted Swan Rescue in Newport fearing the family might get hit by traffic, as they have also been spotted crossing as a group.
A Swan Rescue spokesperson said the swan interprets the reflection as another swan.
