The Savoy Theatre, Monmouth
Having been involved in provincial theatre years back (in Cambridge) and knowing how impossibly difficult it is to keep the doors open, it is heartening to see that Monmouth still has live entertainment and access to the latest films. The Savoy has had a chequered history and is now run by volunteers, who would appear to be getting things right. Behind the plain Georgian facade is an opulent 400 seat auditorium with the latest digital vision and sound equipment
The Savoy is the oldest theatre in Wales and is listed Grade II*. David Garrick appeared here in 1773 and the building was granted an entertainment licence in 1832.
