Looking to the NW along the Rhymney Line from the A4049 bridge in April 2019. This part of the Rhymney Line was formerly single-track and Tir-Phil station behind the camera was a single-platform station. It now has two platforms.

Training runs for the forthcoming (re-)introduction of locomotive-hauled commuter services on the Rhymney Valley line continue, even on a Sunday! Here, class 37 locomotive No. 37421 approaches Tir-Phil station with a working to Cardiff Canton depot.

Viewed from the road bridge adjacent to the railway station. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2243473 The single track Rhymney Line route heads towards Pontlottyn. While much of the area is bathed in bright January sunshine, overnight hoar frost remains on grass on the area in shade at the lower left corner of the view.
