Ebbw Vale Steel Works
The first ironworks was established here in the late 18th century. Coal and iron ore were both mined locally. By the mid 19th century, Ebbw Vale was the largest steelworks in Europe. In 1973, the works were operated by British Steel and the principal plant was a rolling mill. The blast furnaces were shut down in 1975. Production of tinplate continued until 2001. See http://www.bioeddie.co.uk/ebbw-vale/theworks.html (Location presumed by inspection of contemporary 1:10000 map.)
