Labuan at 464 Chepstow Road is opposite Lawrence Hill.
In late December 2015, a yellow notice resting against a lamppost shows that Somerton Road is closed at the railway bridge. The South Wales Argus reported in September 2015 that Somerton Road railway bridge, dating from 1850, needs to be completely reconstructed to accommodate the overhead lines which will power the electric trains when the South Wales Main Line is electrified later this decade. The bridge is expected to be closed to road vehicles until a new and improved bridge which can withstand modern traffic is completed.
A temporary footbridge gives pedestrians access over the railway during the project.

Weight limit sign and bridge closed sign, Chepstow Road, Newport
On the approach to the left turn into Somerton Road, viewed in February 2016 when Somerton Road railway bridge is temporarily closed. Work is in progress on rebuilding the bridge over the South Wales main line in preparation for the electrification of the railway route later this decade.
