Stuffed Dormouse, Ponthir Road, Caerleon
The Stuffed Dormouse restaurant and bar was launched in December 2012. The unusual name was chosen not only because of the ancient Roman connection with Caerleon but also because of the business's ethos of serving something a little different from, and at a lower cost than, its competitors. In the ancient Roman era, only higher status people were able to dine on fresh meat, fish etc so the lower classes had to eat other meat products. The stuffed dormouse was a delicacy for them.
