Broadway speed bump, Caerleon
A painted white triangle draws attention to the bump.
I assume that the not especially broad Broadway is
so named because it contrasts with the many narrow
medieval streets in the centre of Caerleon.

Caerleon features [1]
Priory Lodge and the arched entrance lead to the Priory Hotel, a large rambling building of medieval origin.
Caerleon is a town in Newport, located on the north bank of the River Usk it is 2½ miles northeast of Newport city centre. There is evidence of occupation of the area back to the Neolithic. The town was the site of a Roman legionary fortress, Isca Augusta, and the National Roman Legion Museum and the Roman Baths Museum lie near the ruins. Caerleon features in various literary works. Geoffrey of Monmouth had Caerleon as King Arthur's capital and Thomas Malory has Arthur re-crowned there. The amphitheatre has been associated with Arthur's Round Table and has been suggested as a possible source for the legend.

Priory Lodge and gateway, Broadway, Caerleon
The National Monuments Record of Wales online database, based on a 'black and white undated early photograph' describes the lodge as a 'thatched circular building with a roundheaded door'. The thatch is circular, but the building unsurprisingly appears to be the shape it is today. The tops of the chimneys have undergone some modification as has the front doorstep. The Evening Express, 28th October 1898 carried the following wanted add, 'Situation as Groom-Coachman or Groom-Gardener; aged 30; married; one child; good references.—Powll, Priory Lodge, Caerleon'. The gateway falls within the Scheduled Ancient Monument that is Caerleon Legionary Fortress but is not covered by it.
