Grand Union Canal: Leicester Section: Bridge Number 5A
This bridge carries the West Coast Main Line railway over the canal, and the crossing dates from about the mid-1830s, when the London & Birmingham Railway was completed. The canal's bridge numbering system was already well-established by this time hence the intermediate number between 5 and 6. The perpendicularity of the bridge's parapets to the canal suggests that the railway crosses at 90 degrees. However the railway converges at a very narrow angle to the canal which accounts for the near 60 metre length of bridge along the canal.

Grand Union Canal - Leicester Section, Watford Gap
A narrowboat heads under the skew bridge carrying the West Coast Main Line over the canal. This is very close to Watford Gap M1 services, but that is not particularly obvious from the canal and probably very few motorists are aware of the canal.
