Ecton Hall, Ecton
Pevsner rated this the "foremost example of the Early Gothic Revival in the county". It dates from 1756 and was most likely designed by Sanderson Miller. The shaped gables, battlements and quatrefoils make for a pretty composition, but perhaps lacking somewhat in the authenticity stakes. Grade II* listed. I think it has been converted into flats. Like his sometime collaborator, Thomas Prowse, Miller (1716-80) had independent means and did not rely on architecture for a living. In his Biographical Dictionary of British Architects, Howard Colvin paints an appealing picture of a "gentleman architect whose architectural activities formed part of an active social life." He was best known for his proficient designs in the Georgian Gothick style (see picture).

The Gazebo, Ecton Hall Estate, Ecton, Northants.
A summerhouse dating, according to Pevsner, from the late C17. Located amongst woodland in the grounds of Ecton Hall. This photograph was taken in the mid-1970s when The Gazebo (as it is known locally) was still in good condition. Its present state is unknown to the submitter.
