Nicholson Grave - Newnham Churchyard
This curious affair is somewhat different to the usual headstones found in a village churchyard. It is barely legible but the name Eric Nicholson is clear enough and it appeared he died on 20th June 1917 aged 29, no doubt a casualty of the First World War.

Newnham Church - interior
The interior of St Michael and All Saints' Church has a light and airy feel - helped, no doubt, by the sunny weather. The church mainly dates from the 14th and 15th centuries although, as is so often the way, it was restored in Victorian times.

St Michael and All Angels, Newnham
Most of the church dates from C14 and C15 although there are remnants of a C13 structure present. There was a C19 restoration.

Incumbents of Badby-cum-Newnham
This list is located just inside the door of St Michael and All Saints' Church. The first known occupant of the post was Henry de Cokenato whose tenure lasted until 1265. The last was Roy W Dooley, appointed in 1979; in 1989 a new benefice was formed ending over 700 years of history. The 'patron' was the person or organisation responsible for the appointment; in the early years it varied between the Crown and the Monastery of Evesham. After 1597 it is listed as Christ Church, Oxford until the responsibility passed to the Bishop of Peterborough in 1919.
It should be noted that even before the creation of the modern Knightley Benefice (comprising Badby, Newnham, Charwelton, Fawsley and Preston Capes), Newnham was a chapel to the parent church at Badby. No doubt the parish priest (and any curates there may have been) had to travel between the two frequently. Some would not have been young and one wonders whether those early incumbents had the use of a horse.
