Hyson Green: the corner of Gregory Boulevard and Radford Road
The dull brown-brick shop on the corner is Staddons Bed Centre, the only surviving Staddons store in an area where there were once several. It stands where Hyson Green Police Station once stood.

Radford Road at Hyson Green
After crossing Gregory Boulevard, Radford Road rises (straight ahead) towards Bentinck Road. The southbound tram line turns sharply left into Terrace Street on its way to The Forest stop. The trees to the left are where Hyson Green Police Station, where my father was based early in his career, once stood.

Nottingham - NG5 (Hyson Green)
The 17-storey "High Point" tower block stands out like a sore thumb at the Gregory Boulevard/Noel Street junction here, crossed by a pair of Nottingham Express Transit tram lines. A former church and the adjacent New Art Exchange gallery add to the overall mish-mash of shapes. One corner of The Forest is visible on the right-hand side of the picture.

Hyson Green: the corner of Gregory Boulevard and Radford Road
Tastee's Superstore was once the site of Beech's Department Store, where until the late 1950s there was a "Money on Wires" system, suspended from the ceiling, which took customers' money from the counters to a central cashier and returned their change. It was wonderfully old-fashioned even then, but fascinating to children. Unlike Woolworths round the corner in Radford Road, Beech's stocked Triang and Hornby train sets....

A view across the Radford Road traffic lights along Gregory Boulevard. Sharif & Sons' Superstore stands where Beech's Department Store stood when I was young.

Crossroads, Hyson Green
This crossroads is the meeting point for the two main thoroughfares through Hyson Green: Radford Road (foreground) and Gregory Boulevard (across the centre). It provides a congested focal point for this bustling suburban shopping centre, though I managed to photograph it at a relatively quiet moment.
