The Dunkirk Inn - now closed
No surprise in these difficult times for pubs that this one hidden away on a back-street has succumbed. It was still open a year ago Image Update: July '13. It re-opened some time ago, but I haven't got around to getting a new photo. One has now been done: Image

Amazing Thai Cafe & terrace Montpellier Road, Dunkirk
Dunkirk, a small outlier of Lenton was developed piecemeal over several decades. This group was probably built around 1900. The terrace has been modified later by adding an additional storey at the rear.

Rear of housing terrace, Montpellier Road, Dunkirk
From the front this terrace appears to be a standard 2 storey Victorian terrace. From the rear it is clear that the whole of the terrace has had an extra storey added at the rear. Presumably each house has been divided into two flats, with the upper flats accessed from the rear alley. The taller building to the left with the long extractor vent is now a Thai restaurant, but was probably built as a corner shop.
