Bulwell Main Street, looking south
Until the 1980s this was part of an important through traffic route. Always a major local shopping centre, it has benefited from pedestrianisation and is well served by public transport.

Nottingham - NG6 (Bulwell)
The pedestrianisation of a section of Bulwell's Main Street may have made life much more comfortable for shoppers. On the right is the newly opened (September 2011) pub “The William Peverel”, previously “The Palace” cinema. The pub is named after the son of a Norman knight, William Peverell Snr. (also spelled Peverel and Peveril). William Snr. was generously rewarded by William the Conqueror following the Norman Conquest, receiving over a hundred holdings in central England. The Domesday Book (1086) shows William Snr. as holding 162 lordships in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, including Nottingham Castle. He also built Peveril Castle in Castleton, Derbyshire. William Jnr. subsequently settled in Nottingham.

The Lion Revived in Bulwell
Unusual for a public house - traditional stone facings on the frontage, and a flat roof - and the beer is good too !
