Arnot Hill Park, Arnold, Notts.
The Civic Centre, Arnot Hill House. Arnot Hill Park dates back to 1792. It originated as a landscaped estate to complement this house that was built by John Hawksley, a Nottingham mill owner and worsted manufacturer. Many changes have occurred since then to both the house and the grounds. In 1919 the park was formally opened as an open space for the people of Arnold.

The Borough of Gedling's website informs browsers that "More recently, in partnership with the Heritage Lottery Fund, we have restored much of the park back to its former glory. Over the past few years we've undertaken lots of projects to rejuvenate and restore the park. This has included improvements to the lake, providing a new refreshment kiosk, the development of a skate park and a new play area, restoring the rose and sensory gardens, various planting schemes, reinstating the walls around the park, refurbishing the gatekeepers lodge and making improvements to the lighting as well as improving security through CCTV cameras". This is a northerly view of the rose garden, with the sensory garden behind the photographer. The former mill pond - still a significant feature of this 'estate' can be reached via a descending path in the top left-hand corner of this picture.

Rain seems to have stopped play here in this small picnic area. In addition to the picnic tables, this shelter decorated with 'tribal art', seems to fit in quite nicely here too. Users turning right soon reach some gates that lead out onto Arnot Hill Road, whereas anyone turning left will soon arrive in the vicinity of the Council House or the ornamental lake.
