A northwards along Mansfield Road (A60) towards the suburbs of Sherwood and Carrington. Behind the photographer is one of the entrances into the John Farr Rest Garden. The white building on the left is the Grosvenor pub. The Savoy Hotel, as the hotel in the picture was originally called, was built in the 1970s. Since 2012 it was known as The Park Inn but most recently, i.e. in the summer 2019, it was re-badged as a Mercure Group hotel and is now known as The Nottingham Sherwood Hotel.

Nottingham - NG5 (Mansfield Rd)
The Savoy Hotel, as the hotel in the picture was originally called, was built in the 1970s. From 2012 however, it was known as The Park Inn and most recently, since summer 2019, it has been re-badged as a Mercure Group hotel and is now known as The Nottingham Sherwood Hotel. It is seen in this picture on the other side of Mansfield Road (A60) from this entrance to the John Farr Rest Garden. This small public garden was established in memory of John Thomas Farr (1860-1951), a former managing director of the well-known Home Brewery in Daybrook, Notts. J. T. Farr was also a one-time councillor for Nottinghamshire City Council and for Arnold Urban District Council. This 'rest garden' was developed on the site of some 'tea gardens' that belonged to nearby "Black's Head Inn" (later renamed The Grosvenor Hotel). The Black's Head Inn (first mentioned in a White's Directory of 1844) was purchased by Sir John Robinson, the founder of Home Brewery in 1873, who changed its name in 1877.
